The AICPA develops and grades the uniform CPA examination and sets the stringent ethical standards that CPAs are held to. National Association of Tax Professionals:
The largest nonprofit organization that serves individuals specializing in tax preparation. NATP members work at offices that assist over 12 million people worldwide with U.S. tax preparation and planning. The average NATP member has been in the tax business for over 20 years and holds a tax/financial designation and/or a college degree.
Formed in 1979, NATP’s member base includes individual tax preparers, enrolled agents, certified public accountants, accountants, attorneys and financial planners. The national headquarters, located in Appleton, WI, employs over 55 professionals.
In December 1969, nine African-Americans met in New York City to discuss the unique challenges and limited opportunities they faced in the accounting profession. In that year, there were only 136 African-American Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) out of a total of 100,000 in the United States.

IRS new voluntary program is designed to encourage education and filing season readiness. Return preparers who elect to participate will receive a record of completion from the IRS allowing them to publicly differentiate themselves in the marketplace if desired.
